1 Killed, More Than 20 Injured During Makar Mela In Odisha’s Cuttack

One person was killed and 20 others were injured in a stampede during Makar Mela in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Saturday. The condition of four of the injured is said to be serious. Police gave this information.

Police said that the incident took place when a large number of people gathered on the Badamba-Gopinathpur tea bridge during the Makar Mela.

Badamba-Narsinghpur MLA and former minister Debi Prasad Mishra has confirmed the death of a woman in the stampede. He told that 45-year-old Anjana Swain has died in the incident, while four seriously injured people have been admitted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack city.
Mishra said that the other injured have been admitted to the community center in Badamba.

Deputy District Magistrate of Athagarh Hemant Kumar Swain said that the incident took place due to the sudden rush of devotees, including women and children, who had come to visit Lord Singhnath at the fair.

The district administration said that the crowd was huge as people had come to visit the temple after two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
