14-year-old boy gored to death by bull at Jallikattu event in Tamil Nadu

At a Jallikattu contest in the Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu, a raging bull gored to death a 14-year-old boy who was in the spectator gallery, officials reported on Sunday.

Officials from the district administration said that the accident occurred in the village of Thadangam, where the celebration was held on Saturday.

A bull-tamer failed to control his bull during the event’s grand finale, and the ferocious beast raced out of the arena and pierced Gokul’s stomach.

When Gokul, the boy, was taken to the Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital, he was heavily bleeding. But while receiving medical attention, he died suddenly from his injuries.

The event, which had 622 bulls total and 700 participants, was opened by TN Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare MRK Panneerselvam. At 8 am, the first bull was released through the Vadivasal after receiving a thorough medical exam from veterinarians from the animal husbandry department, kicking off the event with 350 participants.

Each round of the contest comprised of 40 to 50 people attempting to control the bulls. After taming 19 bulls, two participants from Madurai, Jagadish (25) and Diwahar, a native from Kundathur, tied for first place and won a two-wheeler each. Anand from Thuraiyur was ranked as the leading bull owner.
