3,400 detonators recovered from car in Birbhum district ahead of Amit Shah’s visit to Bengal

On Thursday, a day before Union Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the district on the eve of Bengali New Year, a car in West Bengal’s Birbhum district was seized and found to contain a huge quantity of explosive materials.

Locals said that since Wednesday, a Scorpio sedan has been parked on the side of the road next to a brick kiln next to the Guslara bypass under Birbhum district. Locals alerted Murarai police about the suspiciously parked car when no one came forward to claim ownership of it.

Upon arriving, a police crew searched the vehicle and discovered 17 boxes, each containing roughly 200 gelatin sticks.

Upon arriving, a police staff inspected the vehicle and discovered 17 boxes, each containing roughly 200 gelatin sticks. After a bomb squad team was brought to the scene to detonate the explosive, the automobile was confiscated by the Murari police. The Birbhum Police have started an investigation. But thus far, no one has been taken into custody in this case.

The West Bengal Special Task Force carried out a raid in the Mahammad Bazaar neighbourhood of Birbhum district in July of last year and detained a pick-up van that was allegedly carrying 81,000 detonators. Initially, three people were detained in connection with the crime. The miscreants allegedly planned to set off an explosive, but they were stopped by the police.

After a significant amount of explosive materials were recovered, the Union Home Ministry asked the NIA to conduct an investigation. After taking over the investigation, the NIA detained a total of five suspects in the case, and the central agency’s investigation is still ongoing. The West Bengal police have reported finding a further 3,400 gelatin sticks to the NIA.
