As per the Vedic customs, prior to the installation of god idols in a temple, the deities are traditionally consecrated. The idol is not venerable unless it is dedicated.

Types Of Pran Pratishtha

Chal Pran Pratishtha: According to the scriptures, Chal Pran Pratishtha is done to the idols made of sand and clay. On the auspicious festival of Chal Pran, a tableau of the revered idols can be taken out and they can also be immersed.

Achal Pran Pratishtha: In Achal Pran Pratishtha, once the idol is consecrated, it cannot be moved from there. It is said in the scriptures that the idols which are installed in the temple have eternal life consecration. Once the idol is consecrated, it is never removed from there. It is installed at the place where the idol gets permanent consecration. Achal Pran Pratistha includes metal idols or idols made of stone.
