53 people lost their lives in different incidents during Chhath Puja in Bihar. State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has expressed grief over these deaths. Expressing condolences to the dependents of the deceased, he has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each. Instructions have also been given to the administration regarding this.
According to the Bihar Disaster Management Department, 21 people died due to drowning while bathing at various Chhath Ghats of the state on October 30 and 31.
On the other hand, if we talk about cities, then three each in Muzaffarpur and Samastipur, two each in Bhagalpur and Rohtas and one person each in Kaimur, Katihar, Madhepura, Nawada, Sitamarhi, Vaishali, Saharsa, Katihar, Patna and Madhepura districts. One person died due to drowning while taking bath at the Ghats and being struck by lightning at Chhath Ghat in ArariaDeath has happened.
According to the department, between 29 and 31 October, 32 people lost their lives in other accidents on river, canal, pond, pond and Chhath Ghat. Of these 32 people, five each died in Patna and Purnia, four in Saharsa, three in Samastipur, two each in Khagadia, Bhagalpur and Gaya. One person each died in Gaya, Begusarai, Buxar, Katihar, Aurangabad, Sheohar, Banka, Supaul and Kaimur.
