Aero India 2023: During the inauguration of the 14th edition of Aero India at Air Force Station, Yelahanka near Bengaluru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the event serves as a “shining example” of India’s increasing capabilities. He went on to mention that the attendance of “more than 100 nations” demonstrates the confidence placed in India by the international community.
What did PM Modi say at Aero India 2023?
With a theme of “The Runway to a Billion Opportunities”, Aero India 2023 will showcase local equipment and technologies and seek to establish partnerships with international companies, aligning with PM Modi’s vision of “Make in India, Make for the World.” Over 80 countries and 800 defense companies, including 100 foreign and 700 Indian firms, are participating in the biennial aerospace exhibition.
Prime Minister Modi also said that the skies over Bengaluru were a testament to the capabilities of “New India.” He noted that India has been reaching new heights and exceeding them.
PM Modi explained that Aero India has evolved from being just a display to a demonstration of India’s strength, not only showcasing the scope of the defense industry but also the country’s self-confidence. He emphasized the significance of the defense minister’s conclave and CEO roundtable, stating that active participation in the sector would increase the potential of the event.
He highlighted the importance of Aero India taking place in Karnataka, stating that it would open up new avenues for the youth in the aviation sector. He used the examples of LCA Tejas, INS Vikrant, and advanced manufacturing facilities in Surat and Tumakuru to highlight the potential of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

India looking to increase defense exports
PM Modi stated that the “new India of the 21st century” would not miss any opportunity or lack any effort. He mentioned that India has shifted from being a large defense importer to exporting defense equipment to 75 countries, with a goal of increasing defense exports from $1.5 billion to $5 billion by 2024-25. He encouraged the private sector to invest in the defense sector, which would create new opportunities in India and many other countries.
He spoke about the reforms made to ease the process of doing business in India, including the simplification of processes for issuing licenses and the enhancement of tax benefits for manufacturing units. He also touched upon the reforms made in Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in defense and other sectors.
The Indian Air Force performed an air show during the inauguration, with a key highlight being Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari flying the LCA Tejas in a Garud formation.
