Rahul Gandhi: Leader of the Opposition and Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi, has once again expressed deep concerns over the Agniveer scheme, following the tragic deaths of two Agniveers—Gohil Vishwaraj Singh and Saifat Shit—during a training exercise at the Nashik Military Camp. The incident has sparked outrage, with Rahul Gandhi pointing to deeper issues in the recruitment scheme launched by the BJP government under PM Modi.

In a message shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Rahul Gandhi offered his condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers, while raising serious questions about the Agniveer scheme and its impact on soldiers’ rights.

The Nashik Military Camp Explosion: Tragic Incident That Took Two Lives

The unfortunate incident occurred when a team of Agniveers was involved in firing shells from a cannon during a routine training session at the Nashik Military Camp. A shell exploded unexpectedly, critically injuring the two young soldiers. Despite being rushed to the military hospital in Deolali, both Gohil and Saifat were declared dead shortly after arrival. The army has confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered to uncover the exact cause of the accident, but this tragedy has reignited the ongoing debate about the Agniveer scheme’s effectiveness and fairness.

Rahul Gandhi Demands Clarity and Fair Treatment Under Agniveer Scheme

Rahul Gandhi did not shy away from pointing fingers at the Agniveer program. In his statement, he questioned whether the families of the two Agniveers would receive compensation equivalent to other martyred soldiers. He emphasized the discrimination faced by Agniveers, especially when it comes to benefits like pensions and government-provided facilities.

“Why are the sacrifices of these young soldiers being treated differently after their deaths?” Gandhi asked, addressing PM Modi and the Defense Ministry. “When their responsibilities and risks are the same as other soldiers, why should their families suffer due to the flawed structure of the Agniveer scheme?”

A Call to Join the ‘Jay Jawan’ Movement

Furthering his criticism, Gandhi called the Agniveer scheme an insult to the sacrifices made by brave soldiers and labeled it “an injustice to the army.” He urged the public to unite in the fight against this scheme, encouraging everyone to join his ‘Jay Jawan’ movement—an initiative aimed at safeguarding the future of India’s youth and military.
