An internal analysis inside the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal worried the party ahead of the panchayat elections. In fact, it has come to know that the women of Bengal are not happy with the irregularities in the distribution of rural houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana during the last few years. The women’s wing of the Trinamool Congress had launched the party’s campaign in the month of November for the panchayat elections in the state to visit various districts and interact mainly with women. This was done as part of the party’s ‘Chalo Gram Jai’ program to woo women voters across the state. This campaign has completed the first phase in the last week of November.
Women angry over ambiguity in distribution of houses
A team led by Bengal minister Chandrima Bhattacharya covered a large part of South Bengal in the last twenty-five days. TMC sources told media that women living in villages have told top leaders that they want the government to focus on distributing funds under the PM Awas Yojana. Along with this, he has demanded that clarity should be maintained during the distribution of these houses. Sources said that we have understood from this analysis that the TMC-led government should take this matter seriously before the next year’s panchayat elections.
Center approves Rs 8,200 crore for Bengal
Recently, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has approved Rs 8,200 crore for West Bengal under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana, less than two weeks before Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to New Delhi. Just before the Panchayat elections, the government will be able to build houses for more than 11 lakh families. A top level source in the West Bengal government has given this information.
It has been suggested by the team analyzing public opinion at the grassroots level that there should be zero tolerance in the matter of corruption related to the distribution of Rural Housing Fund. Otherwise, the party may have to face difficulties in the coming elections. We have come to know that the central government has cleared the dues in the last two weeks.
Here, taking a jibe at the Trinamool Congress, Leader of the Opposition Subhendu Adhikari said, “PM Awas Yojana is for poor peopleTrinamool Congress leaders have been corrupting this scheme for a long time. If they do not realize the loss of common poor people, then we have nothing to say. He has been sanctioned several central funds in the last two months. He should thank the central government for clearing the dues.”
Earlier this year, the central government had stopped the funds under this scheme when BJP MPs said that the TMC government has re-established this centrally sponsored scheme as ‘Bangla Awas Yojana’. There were allegations of huge corruption against the TMC-led government as per the distribution of related funds.
