Air Marshal A P Singh on Wednesday took over as the new Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force. He has more than 5,000 hours of flying experience. He succeeds Air Marshal Sandeep Singh, who retired on Tuesday after serving for over 39 years.
An alumnus of National Defense Academy, Defense Services Staff College and National Defense College, Air Marshal AP Singh was commissioned into the fighter branch of the Indian Air Force on December 21, 1984. AP Singh is an accomplished flying instructor and experimental test pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying experience on a variety of aircraft.
Took command of Frontline Air Base
During his career, the officer has commanded an operational fighter squadron and a frontline air base. As a test pilot, he headed the MiG-29 upgrade project management team in Moscow. He was also the Project Director (Flight Testing) at the National Flight Test Center overseeing the flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas.
Held many important positions
He has held the important positions of Air Defense Commander in the South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer in the Eastern Air Command. Prior to his present appointment, he was the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command.
Air Marshal has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal. On taking over as the Vice Chief of the Air Force, he laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in honor of the Armed Forces personnel who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. After this, he was given a ‘guard of honour’ at the Air Force Headquarters.
