FASTags: Alert! Banks Set to Deactivate FASTags After January 31 If…

FASTags

FASTags: Users need to make sure that their newest FASTag’s KYC is finished in order to prevent any trouble. FASTag users are also required to follow the “One Vehicle, One FASTag” policy and destroy all previously issued FASTags via their individual banks.

Customer Support Guidance

After January 31, 2024, all prior FASTag accounts will be terminated or blacklisted, leaving only the most recent account active. FASTag users can contact the closest toll plazas or toll-free customer service number of their individual issuing banks for more help or inquiries.

Regulatory Violations Prompt NHAI Action

The recent reports of several FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and FASTags being issued without KYC in violation of RBI’s regulation prompted NHAI to initiate this action. In addition, there are instances when FASTags are purposefully left off of a vehicle’s windscreen, which causes needless delays at toll booths and annoyance to other drivers on the National Highway.

Revolutionizing Toll Collection

FASTag has transformed the nation’s Electronic Toll Collection system, boasting a penetration rate of over 98 percent and over 8 crore customers. The “One Vehicle, One FASTag” campaign will guarantee smooth and comfortable travel for users of the National Highways and contribute to more effective toll operations.

According to the statement, NHAI took this action in response to recent claims that many FASTags were given for a single vehicle and that FASTags were issued without KYC, which is against RBI mandate. With over 8 crore users and a penetration rate of almost 98%, FASTag has completely changed the nation’s electronic toll collection system.

Elevating Green Initiatives

Prior to this, the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) inked a contract to create a “Green Cover Index” for India’s vast network of national highways.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and NHAI have prioritised greening Highway Corridors since the policy’s inception in 2015, according to the statement, and field personnel are currently responsible for site visits to monitor plantations.

Tech-Infused Environmental Mapping

“Using the capabilities of emerging technologies to enhance in-situ data collection and supplement plantation management and monitoring, including performance audits conducted by NHAI, the NRSC will undertake a comprehensive pan-India estimation of green cover, referred to as the “Green Cover Index” for National Highways using high-resolution satellite imagery,” the statement said.
