Allahabad High Court: The Allahabad High Court has declared that religious organizations that are conducting conversions must be shut down, stating that if these events are permitted, the nation’s “majority population would be in minority”. Yesterday, the high court heard Kailash’s bail petition. Kailash is accused of escorting individuals from Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, to a meeting in Delhi for the purpose of conversions.

Ramphal Taken to Delhi for Alleged Conversion Meeting

pursuant to the FIR, Ramphal, the brother of Ramkali Prajapati, was taken to Delhi by Kailash, and the brother never came back, pursuant to the court’s order. According to the FIR, Ramphal has been experiencing mental health issues. Kailash stated that he will receive treatment at the gathering in Delhi and return home within a week. She inquired Kailash when Ramphal did not come back, but she did not receive a good response.

Many residents of the hamlet of Hamirpur were allegedly brought to the Delhi meeting and forced to become Christians, according to the FIR. Charges of abduction and violating the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021 led to Kailash’s arrest.

UP Government Cites Mass Conversions in Court

Additional Advocate General PK Giri, representing the Uttar Pradesh government, informed the court that a significant number of individuals are being converted to Christianity at these kind of events. He also cited witness accounts in support of his claim that Kailash had been paying individuals in the hamlet to convert them.Ramphal was not converted to Christianity, according to Kailash’s attorney Saket Jaiswal, and he had just gone to a Christian event.  “It was Sonu Paster who was holding such gathering, and he has already been enlarged on bail,” he argued

Justice Agarwal Clarifies Article 25 on Religious Propagation

The Constitution’s Article 25 guarantees freedom of conscience as well as the freedom to proclaim, practice, and spread one’s religion; it makes no provisions for conversion from one faith to another, according to Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal’s ruling. “The word ‘Propagation’ means to promote, but it does not mean to convert any person from his religion to another religion,” the order says. The court took notice of the fact that witnesses had said Kailash had abducted individuals for conversion, and that Ramphal had never returned to the community.

“If this process is allowed to be carried out, the majority population of this country would be in minority one day, and such religious congregation should be immediately stopped where the conversion is taking place and changing religion of citizen of India,” the court said, while denying bail to Kailash. “It has come into notice of this Court in several cases that unlawful activity of conversion of people of SC/ST castes and other castes including economically poor persons into Christianity is being done at rampant pace throughout the State of Uttar Pradesh,” it added.
