High-Level Conference Called by Union Home Minister
A high-level conference has been held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to examine the security situation in Manipur at 4 PM today. In Manipur, there has been ethnic violence for the past year. This meeting will be attended by the chief minister of Manipur, N Virendra Singh, as well as representatives from the state police, administration, and top division of the Union Home Ministry. Anusuiya Uikey, the governor of Manipur, had seen Amit Shah the day before. Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the RSS, voiced worry earlier on June 10 on the violence in Manipur.
Historical Peace in Manipur
“Manipur has been waiting for peace for the last year,” he declared, speaking to a Sangh gathering in Nagpur. A decade ago, Manipur was at peace. It appeared like the state’s embrace of gun culture had ceased there, but then violence was reported. Prioritizing the Manipur situation is imperative. It is also necessary to put aside electioneering hyperbole and concentrate on the issues affecting the country. The turmoil either started spontaneously or was provoked, but either way, Manipur is on fire and the heat is brutal for the locals.
Tribal Solidarity March
On May 3 of the previous year, ethnic conflict started in Manipur. In opposition to the majority Meitei community’s quest for Scheduled Tribe classification, a tribal solidarity march was held in the state’s hill areas. During this, there was violence. This fire claimed the lives of around 220 members of the Kuki and Meitei communities as well as security personnel. About 53% of Manipur’s population is Meitei. The Naga and Kuki castes are part of the tribal group, which is based in the Imphal valley. They make up around 40% of the population. They are all mostly residents of the hilly areas.
