Amit Shah: President of the Indian Overseas Congress Sam Pitroda‘s statement has drawn harsh criticism from the nation’s home minister, Amit Shah. He claimed that Sam’s remarks had exposed the true mindset of the Congress.
Amit Shah’s Critique
Amit Shah said, “Congress has been completely exposed after Sam Pitroda’s remarks. The first mention of ‘survey’ in their manifesto, Manmohan Singh’s old statement which is Congress’s legacy, is that the first survey on the country’s resources will be done. Rights belong to minorities, and now Sam Pitroda’s comment citing America that there should be discussion on distribution of money shows the mentality of Congress.”
Congress Responds to Pitroda’s Remarks
Amit Shah added, “Now that PM Modi raised this issue, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and the entire Congress party have come on the back foot on this matter. They are saying that this was never their intention. The Home Minister of the country Said that today Sam Pitroda’s objective has become clear to the country that they want to survey the private property of the people of the country as per the decision taken during the UPA rule.”
He conclude Saying that, ” Congress should either withdraw it from its manifesto or accept that this is its real intention. Amit Shah said that Sam Pitroda’s statement should be taken seriously, because his intentions have now come to light. People should take cognizance of this now.”
Pitroda’s Inheritance Tax Perspective
Actually Pitroda elaborated on the idea of inheritance taxes in certain US states, saying that “If one has $100 million worth of wealth and when he dies he can only transfer probably 45% to his children, 55% is grabbed by the government. That’s an interesting law. It says you, in your generation, made wealth, and you are leaving now, you must leave your wealth for the public, not all of it, half of it, which to me sounds fair.”
He added that, “In India, you don’t have that. If somebody is worth 10 billion, and he dies, his children get 10 billion and the public gets nothing… So these are the kind of issues people will have to debate and discuss,” he further said.
Pitroda defended Congress’s poll pledge in an interview with ANI, arguing that wealth redistribution was a policy that served the interests of all people, not only the extremely wealthy.
