Arvind Kejriwal: A day after meeting Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and garnering support from him in fight against Centre’s ordinance on control of services in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to meet Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar in Mumbai on Thursday.
Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday evening and met former Maharshtra CM Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday.
Against democracy and Constitution
After the meeting, Thackeray said his party was with AAP in its struggle against the Centre’s ordinance. “We all have come together to save the country and democracy. I think we should not be called ‘opposition’ parties in fact they (BJP) should be called ‘opposition’ since they are against democracy and Constitution,” he said. Thackeray said the Supreme Court’s order was important for democracy.
After meeting Uddhav Thackeray, Arvind Kejriwal said the ordinance proves that the Centre does not believe in the Supreme Court. He also said state governments were being toppled by using the CBI and the ED.
Ordinance to create an authority
The Centre last Friday promulgated an ordinance to create an authority for transfer and posting of Group-A officers in Delhi. The AAP government called the move a deception with the Supreme Court verdict on control of services.
The ordinance came a week after the Supreme Court gave the control of services in Delhi excluding police, public order and land, to the elected government of Delhi.
Kejriwal is making all efforts to drum support from the opposition parties over the Cntre’s ordinance. On Tuesday, Kejriwal and Mann met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata as part of their nationwide tour to garner support for the AAP’s fight against the Centre’s ordinance.
