An agreement was reached on Thursday (April 20) to resolve the border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Regarding this, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu signed a peace agreement in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah. In this, the CMs of both the states have agreed on equal distribution of the land.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said after the agreement that this border dispute could not be resolved from 1972 till today. The report of the Local Commission, which was plagued by disputes in the courts in different governments since 1972, has been accepted by both the state governments, ending the Assam-Arunachal border dispute of about 800 kilometers today. There was a dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh regarding 123 villages situated in the 804 kilometer border. Out of this agreement of 36 villages has already been done.
