A probe into an allegation that an Air India pilot allegedly permitted a female friend to enter the cockpit during a flight from Delhi to Dubai was requested by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India’s aviation regulator.
This happened after the aforementioned crew member protested in late March that the flight’s commander had hosted a woman companion in the aircraft’s cockpit in contravention of established rules.
The cabin crew member complained to Air India CEO Campbell Wilson and the airline’s head of flight safety on March 3. She said she was taken aback by the flight commander’s “threatening” and “aggressive” behaviour ever since the incident occurred.
On February 27, the event happened on board flight AI915 from Delhi to Dubai. The complaint claimed that the pilot-in-command broke the rules by admitting a female passenger from economy class into the cockpit, whom he claimed to be a friend.
Because the passenger had not completed a breathalyser test, the concerned crew member initially expressed concern that this would go against DGCA regulations. The flight’s captain had previously tried to get his acquaintance upgraded from economy to business class.
According to the complaint, the flight’s captain also gave the order for the crew to fetch pillows from the bunk and set them up in the cockpit for the convenience of his passenger guest.
