Ayodhya Ram Mandir: Union Minister Slams Shankaracharyas, Says ‘Bless the Ram Temple, Don’t Just Criticise’

Ayodhya Ram Mandir

Ayodhya Ram Mandir: Union Minister Narayan Rane charged the Shankaracharyas of viewing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP through a “political prism” and suggested they should bless the Ram Temple rather than criticise some parts of it on Saturday.

Palghar Press Conference

In an interview with reporters in Palghar, Maharashtra, he added that the Shankaracharyas needed to clarify what they personally contributed to Hinduism.

“No one could do it until now. Modi, the BJP took it up and a temple is being built. Should they bless the temple or criticise it? It means Shankaracharyas look at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP through a political prism. This temple is not built on politics but on religion. Ram is our God,” Rane said. “Shankaracharyas should tell what is their contribution to the Hindu religion,” he added.

Uddhav Thackeray’s Ram Temple Proposal

When asked about the statement made by Uddhav Thackeray, the chief of the Shiv Sena (UBT), that President Droupadi Murmu must open the Ram Temple, Rane stated he would not comment on someone “who has no job and sits at home.” Since “eight out of sixteen MLAs with him are approaching us (BJP-led ruling alliance) and would join soon,” according to Rane, Thackeray’s side would suffer further setbacks.

Eknath Shinde’s Rise and Shiv Sena’s June 2022 Split

After a majority of MLAs sided with Eknath Shinde, who later became chief minister with the backing of the BJP, the Shiv Sena split in June 2022. Atul Londhe, a spokesman for the Maharashtra Congress, charged that Rane had denigrated the Hindu religion and its leaders. He claimed that Rane lacked sufficient knowledge of Hinduism and asked for the BJP’s reaction to the minister’s comments.

Two Shankaracharyas Welcome Consecration

On Friday, VHP working president Alok Kumar stated two of the four Shankaracharyas have “openly welcomed” the planned consecration ceremony, but none of them would attend the major event to be held in Ayodhya on January 22. He told PTI that they will go to the Ram shrine “as per their convenience” later.

Shankaracharyas’ Absence

The Shankaracharyas of the Shri Shringeri Sharda Peeth in Karnataka, Dwarka Sharda Peeth in Gujarat, Jyotir Peeth in Uttarakhand, and Govardhan Peeth in Odisha are reportedly refusing to attend the consecration event. These reports have led the opposition parties to direct their attacks against the BJP.

The Sankaracharya Jyotirpeeth According to reports, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati had stated that as building is still ongoing, it would not be appropriate to hold a consecration ceremony at this time.
