Babita Phogat, an Olympian and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), expressed her opinions on the continuing wrestlers’ protest on Monday and asserted that the grapplers were being exploited. Babit Phogat assured India Today that the government was seriously following the special committee’s investigation and would consider all legitimate requests from the wrestlers.
Babita Phogat Condemns Misleading of Wrestlers in Haridwar Incident
Babita Phogat, a member of the oversight committee established by the government to look into the issue, claimed that the wrestlers were misled and used in the Haridwar incident. To get their medals submerged in the Ganga River, the wrestlers journeyed to Haridwar last week. Khap and farmer leaders convinced them not to do that. The leaders asked the wrestlers for five days to air their complaints. The wrestlers were utilised in a way. ‘Even if I had to touch their (the wrestlers’) feet, if I had been there, I would never have allowed something like this to occur.’ Babita Phogat remarked, “I feel awful that something like this occurred.”
Babita Phogat Slams Advisers of Wrestlers for Opposing Their Best Interests
“Whoever advised the wrestlers to submerge their medals did not do it in their best interests. They are opposed to the wrestlers rather than supporting them, according to Babita Phogat. The former wrestler turned politician also criticised rival parties for “misleading” athletes. “I’d like to know where the rivals fled while the wrestlers were being taken into custody. When the cops were about to arrest them, they misled wrestlers and ran away, she claimed. Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia are among the wrestlers who have won medals at the Olympics and World Championships who have been calling for the arrest of BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Several female wrestlers, including a youngster, are said to have been sexually harassed by Singh, a BJP member from Kaisarganj in Uttar Pradesh.
