Bandi Sanjay Kumar: Beleaguered Bandi Sanjay Kumar, BJP Lok Sabha MP and Telangana BJP president, was granted bail in the SSC question paper leak case on Thursday on Rs 20,000 surety from a magistrate court in Warangal. He is likely to be released shortly. The court however, added a rider saying he “should not leave the country, should cooperate with the investigation and should not threaten the witnesses.”
On Tuesday, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, was picked up by a team of police well after midnight from his residence in Karimnagar city and was put under preventive arrest. He was named as the prime accused and arrested by the city police over the leak of secondary school exam papers.
Question paper leak
According to the police, Bandi Sanjay Kumar conspired with other accused with an intention to fuel rumours and provoke breach of peace of the ongoing SSC public examination. This happened after images of two question papers surfaced on social media, to defame the government, police said.
On April 5, the BJP leader was remanded in judicial custody till April 19 in the paper leak case.
Meanwhile, in a related development a day later, the Telangana High Court refused to quash the remand and directed Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s legal team to approach the magistrate court for bail. As a result of this, the magistrate court has granted conditional bail to the Karimnagar MP.
BJP image sullied
Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s alleged involvement in the murky scandal has sullied the waters and tarnished the image of the so-called corruption-free lotus party. The coming days will tell whether he was directly involved in the paper leak scam or was he trying to fish in troubled waters.
