The Beating Retreat ceremony, marking the culmination of Republic Day festivities at Vijay Chowk in the national capital, promises an enchanting display of Indian musical traditions. With dignitaries including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance, the event is set to captivate audiences with 31 melodious Indian tunes performed by the music bands of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
Musical Extravaganza
The ceremony will commence with the resonating ‘Shankhnaad’ tune, followed by a mesmerizing repertoire including ‘Veer Bharat’, ‘Sangam Dur’, ‘Deshon ka Sartaj Bharat’, and ‘Arjuna’ by the Pipes and Drums band. The CAPF bands will add to the allure with renditions of ‘Bharat Ke Jawan’ and ‘Vijay Bharat’, among others.
Diverse Performances
The Indian Air Force band will showcase tunes such as ‘Tiger Hill’, ‘Rejoice in Raisina’, and ‘Swadeshi’, while the Indian Navy band will regale the audience with compositions like ‘INS Vikrant’, ‘Mission Chandrayaan’, and ‘Jai Bharati’. The Indian Army band will contribute with patriotic melodies including ‘Faulad Ka Jigar’, ‘Agniveer’, and ‘Kargil 1999’.
Grand Finale
The Massed Bands will conclude the ceremony with iconic tunes like ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’, ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon’, and ‘Drummers Call’, culminating in the beloved ‘Sare Jahan se Acha’.
Conductor and Performers
Under the guidance of Principal Conductor Lt Col Vimal Joshi, conductors from each branch—Subedar Major Moti Lal (Army), MCPO MUS II M Antony (Navy), Warrant Officer Ashok Kumar (Air Force), and Constable GD Ranidevi (CAPF)—will lead their respective bands. Buglers, led by Naib Subedar Umesh Kumar, and Pipes and Drums band, under the instruction of Subedar Major Rajender Singh, will add to the musical spectacle.

The Beating Retreat ceremony, dating back to the 1950s, pays homage to a centuries-old military tradition. It evokes nostalgia for times past, symbolizing the end of hostilities as troops sheathe their arms and withdraw from the battlefield at sunset.
