Best City in the World: Sydney has been crowned the world’s best city in a survey conducted by Conde Nast Traveller as part of its prestigious Readers’ Choice Awards for 2024. The results, announced on October 1 in the UK, placed Sydney in the top spot with a score of 92.26, earning praise for its “unique, indoor-outdoor way of life.” The city outperformed other popular destinations, including Valencia, Spain (92.78), Singapore (92.47), Hong Kong (91.72), and Stockholm, Sweden (91.11), which rounded out the top five.
In addition to being named the best city, Sydney was recognized as the world’s second-most friendly city with a score of 93.85, just behind Singapore’s 94.84 points. The Fullerton Hotel in Sydney was also lauded, winning the title of the best hotel in Australasia.
Conde Nast Traveler US also released its Readers’ Choice Awards this week, ranking Sydney third among the best cities in the world. The magazine highlighted the city’s appeal as an “ideal getaway no matter the season.” In the hotel category, the Ritz-Carlton Melbourne was named the best hotel in Australia and New Zealand for 2024.
The awards were based on the votes of over half a million survey respondents, reflecting the widespread appeal of Sydney and its hotels across both the UK and US Conde Nast Traveller audiences.
Sydney’s Unique Lifestyle Garners Global Praise
Sydney’s rise to the top of Conde Nast Traveller’s list was attributed to its unique indoor-outdoor lifestyle, which combines urban sophistication with proximity to natural beauty. The city’s iconic landmarks, such as the Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, and the Harbour Bridge, alongside its vibrant food and culture scene, were highlighted as key attractions for visitors. The magazine emphasized Sydney’s ability to seamlessly blend modern living with outdoor activities, making it a standout destination for travelers worldwide.
A Recognition of Hospitality and Friendliness
In addition to topping the best cities list, Sydney also earned the title of the world’s second-most friendly city, further boosting its global reputation. This accolade reflects not only the city’s welcoming atmosphere but also its people, who contribute to creating a warm and inviting environment for visitors. Singapore narrowly took the top spot for friendliness, but Sydney’s high ranking underscores the city’s hospitality.
