Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in Sunday said the country’s top civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ should be given this year to all doctors, nurses and paramedics who served the people amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said that it would be a true tribute to the doctors who lost their lives. Kejriwal tweeted that ‘Indian doctor’ should get Bharat Ratna this year.
Kejriwal, in letter to the PM, suggested that rules be tweaked so that all healthcare workers can be honoured together as a group.
“The country wants that this year Bharat Ratna should be given to an ”Indian doctor”. By this, I do not mean any particular person. All the group of doctors, nurses and paramedics of the country should get this honour,” wrote the CM, whose most recent run-in with the centre was over the AAP government’s ration scheme.
This statement from the CM comes after PM Modi, in his address at an Indian Medical Association event on National Doctors’ Day, hailed their contribution in saving lives.
“Losing the life of even one person is very saddening but India has also saved the lives of lakhs of its people from coronavirus. A big credit for it goes to our hard working doctors, healthcare workers and front line workers,” PM Modi.
