Biden’s New Year Gift! H-1B Visa Renewal Pilot to Benefit Indian Professionals, Check Details

H-1B Visa

H-1B Visa: This programme allows Canadian citizens and Indian IT and technology professionals working in the United States to extend their H-1B visas for as long as they are employed there. The US government of Joe Biden has made a fresh choice regarding the renewal of H-1B visas. The local Indian population will reap significant advantages from this.

Biden’s Bold Initiative

Indeed, the beginning of a pilot programme for the domestic renewal of H-1B visas has received approval from the Biden administration. Only citizens of Canada and India are eligible for this programme. The Domestic Renewal Programme is scheduled to begin on January 29, 2024. This is also referred to as the Biden administration’s New Year’s gift.

Canadian Nationals and Indian IT Professionals

Under this programme, Canadian nationals working in the United States and Indian IT and technology professionals can extend their H-1B visa and work permit by remaining in the country. A maximum of 20,000 persons may have their visas renewed under this programme. About six months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, the United States made this decision.

Eliminating Travel Requirement

Prime Minister Modi declared in June that individuals of Indian descent would not need to travel outside of the country to obtain an H-1B visa, and that the visa could be renewed while the applicant was still in the country. Indians will now find it simpler to live and work in America thanks to the new visa regulations.

Eligibility Criteria for Indian Nationals

Indian nationals who obtained an H-1B visa from the US Consulate in India between February 1, 2021, and September 30, 2021, will be eligible for this pilot programme. In addition, those Canadian nationals who, between January 1, 2020, and April 1, 2023, obtained an H-1B visa from the US Consulate. Let us explain. The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that permits US employers to hire foreign workers. Up until now, IT specialists and other employees of American businesses had to travel back to their home country to renew their H-1B visas when they expired. However, the new pilot programme eliminates this requirement. After the hassle is over, the visa can be renewed while the traveller is still in the United States.

Simplifying Processes for 10 Lakh Individuals

It is estimated that this process simplification will help roughly 10 lakh people, but Indian citizens stand to gain the most. In 2022, 4.42 lakh H-1B visas were issued by the US government. Among them, Indians made up 73%. A spouse of an H-1B visa holder is permitted to reside in the US.
