Bihar: Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar and the leader of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), and Lalu Prasad Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), are due to meet Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of the Congress, on Sunday night in Delhi.
In an effort to unify the opposition camp before the pivotal 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi will hold the first-ever discussions with the two political heavyweights from the eastern state.
The meeting is crucial for a number of reasons, including the fact that Yadav would ask Gandhi for assurances on the “unity of the opposition to agree for compromises,” in addition to strengthening the opposition camp.

In his speech, Kumar emphasised that he is not the prime ministerial candidate and that there is no discussion of a third front after recently severing relations with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and joining forces with Yadav’s RJD and Congress to create a new government in Bihar. Congress should be a part of only one front, he continued, “then we can beat BJP in 2024.”
Following Amit Shah’s attack on the Bihar chief minister, who claimed he severed connections with the BJP in order to pursue his prime ministerial ambitions, Kumar has provided explanation.
