Bihar caste census starts tomorrow

Nitish Kumar government is going to conduct caste census in Bihar. Its work will start from January 7. The work of counting castes will be completed in two phases. The Nitish government had been demanding caste census for a long time.

Nitish government has passed the proposal of caste census on 18 February 2019 and again on 27 February 2020 in Bihar Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. However, the Center has been against it. The Center had made it clear by filing an affidavit in the Supreme Court that caste census will not be conducted. The Center said that counting the OBC castes is a long and difficult task.

But now Nitish government is going to conduct caste census. Its responsibility has been given to the General Administration Department. The work of caste census has been asked to be completed by May this year. In such a situation, it is important to know that how will caste census be done in Bihar? How will the castes be counted?

The caste census will start from January 7. This will happen in two phases. The first phase will run from January 7 to January 21. The second phase will run from April 1 to April 30.

How will it be counted?

Houses will be counted in the first phase. It will start from the VIP areas of Patna. In this the houses of MLAs, MPs and ministers will be counted. Apart from this, the names of the head of the household and family members will also be recorded.

Castes will be counted in the second phase. In this people will be asked about their caste, sub-caste and religion and data will be collected.

How will such a big task happen?

The Nitish government has entrusted the task of conducting the caste census to the General Administration Department. Data will be collected from Panchayat to district level.

The work of caste census at the district level has been entrusted to the DM. He has also been made the nodal officer.

Employees of the General Administration Department, DM and employees of subordinate offices of different departments at the village level have been given the responsibility. Apart from these, the help of Jeevika didis and Anganwadi workers will also be taken.

What about those who are outside?

There is a large section of Bihar which lives in different parts of the country. They will also be counted. The General Administration Department has also been entrusted with the task of enumerating the people of the state living outside Bihar.
