Bihar Train Accident: Late on Wednesday night, a tragic incident occurred as coaches of the Delhi-Kamakhya Northeast Express derailed near Bihar‘s Buxar district, leading to the unfortunate loss of four lives and injuries to around 100 passengers. This event forced the diversion of 92 trains and the cancellation of eight others.
Injured passengers shifted to AIIMS Patna
The accident site witnessed significant damage to pillars, electrical poles, and signal posts alongside both railway tracks. Trains along the New Delhi-Howrah main line were considerably delayed as they were held at various locations. Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey responded to the incident, confirming the presence of national and state disaster response teams at the site. Additionally, he assured that the injured individuals would receive medical attention at AIIMS, Patna.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav has communicated with the Disaster Management Department, Health Department, and local district officials in Buxar and Bhojpur to expedite relief and rescue efforts. Officials suspect that the derailment may have occurred due to inadequate track maintenance or a fault in the track switching mechanism.
An official said that, “The area is not known for any unlawful activities.” Officials have identified three of the victims in the Bihar train accident as Usha Bhandari (33), Akriti Bhandari (8), and Abu Jayand (27), while the identity of the fourth passenger remains unknown. The majority of the injured individuals are currently receiving medical care in Buxar, Ara, and Patna hospitals.
When did the Bihar Train accident occurred?
The Northeast Express bound for Kamakhya was running approximately one hour and forty minutes behind schedule when the coaches derailed around 9:35 PM shortly after departing Buxar station. A relief and rescue train arrived at the scene at approximately 1:30 AM. Authorities have confirmed that all trapped passengers have been safely evacuated, and efforts are underway to place the derailed coaches back on the track.
