‘Biparjoy’ Cyclone‘
The cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ is transforming into a strong cyclonic storm as informed by the Met Department. Indian Met Department has issued a Rainfall alert warning for Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for the next five days. The IMD has issued a warning for the Fishermen of Karnataka not to venture into the Arabian sea until further instructions. Meanwhile Gujarat Government said that they are all prepared to handle the Natural calamities. Fishermen have been warned not to go near the sea till June 14. The cyclone currently has wind speed between 135-145 Km per hour. The weather conditions and cloud mass indicate that the system is likely to sustain the strength of a severe cyclone till June 12th.

Fishermen warned not to venture into the sea
The IMD also said that the cyclone is expected to intensify in the next 48 hours. It is currently over the East Central Arabian sea and would move to Northwest.The cyclone is likely to affect the coastline of Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The Met Department has not predicted any major impact on countries adjoining the Arabian sea, including India, Oman, Iran and Pakistan. The Met Department says that the cyclone is likely to make a landfall in Pakistan, it will also impact the arrival of the Monsoon in Mumbai which is extremely dependent on the water reservoirs that gets filled after the rain. The powerful weather system in the Arabian Sea may spoil the advancement of Monsoon deep inland. Monsoon stream may reach coastal parts but will struggle to penetrate beyond the Western Ghats.
Like every other cyclone, ‘Biparjoy’ was named by the Met Department to avoid confusion in the records. The cyclone has got this name from Bangladesh. The word ‘Biparjoy’ in Bengali means Disaster or calamity. This name was adopted by World Meteorological Organization.
