BJP MLA from Karnataka fears ‘sextortion’ attempt, files police complaint

GH Thippareddy, a senior BJP lawmaker from Karnataka, filed a police complaint on Monday regarding a possible attempt by unidentified person to trap him in a sex video.

In his complaint to the cybercrime police, the MLA from central Karnataka’s Chitradurga region claimed that on October 31, he received a Whatsapp video call in which an unidentified woman appeared naked.

Thippareddy allegedly received explicit films from the same number via WhatsApp later on. According to the video, Thippareddy’s face could be seen on the WhatsApp video screen. For the electronic transfer of pornographic content, the Chitradurga Cybercrime Police filed a charge under Section 67 A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Since the BJP government took office in Karnataka in 2019, Thippareddy has been vying for a position in the cabinet. He was an outspoken supporter of the powerful Chitradurga Muruga Mutt’s chief pontiff, who was detained in September on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting students at a Mutt-run dorm.
