A BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh, Ram Swaroop Sharma, was found dead at his residence in Delhi, the police said, adding they are investigating whether it was a case of suicide.
Mr Sharma, 62, was found hanging in his room, Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal said. He was taken to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, the police said, adding that no suicide note was found from the spot.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condoled the demise of Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Ram Swaroop Sharma and said the BJP leader had worked tirelessly for the betterment of society.
Union home minister Amit Shah also expressed his condolence over the demise of the BJP MP.
“In this hour of grief, I express my condolences to his family and pray to God for the peace of the departed soul. Om shanti shanti shanti,” Shah tweeted in Hindi.
Sharma was elected to Lok Sabha from the Mandi constituency in 2016 and 2019.
He was currently a member of the Standing Committee on External Affairs and the Consultative Committee, Ministry of External Affairs.
