Hours after state water minister Satyendar Jain’s convoy was attacked in Matiala on Sunday, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accsused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the attack. However, the PM Modi-led party has rejected the claim.
“This is BJP. The party of louts. They expose themselves when they are losing (elections). The people will teach them a lesson,” Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi on Sunday evening.
ये भाजपा है। निहायत गुंडों और लफ़ंगों की पार्टी। जब ये हार रहे होते हैं तो अपनी औक़ात दिखा देते हैं। इन्हें जनता इनकी औक़ात बतायेगी। https://t.co/dyULebGhYi

Deputy Commissioner of Police of Dwarka district Shankar Chaudhary on Sunday evening informed about the attack on Satyendar Jain’s convoy.
“Jain had inaugurated a sewer line in Goyala Vihar, under Chhawla Police Station on Sunday. After the inauguration, he left the venue and crossed the Goyala Dairy drain, and headed towards Dwarka where some protesters raised slogans and tried to stop his car,” said Chaudhary. He said that the police personnel from the nearby picket reached the spot immediately and cleared the way for the minister. Further, Station House Officer (SHO) of Chhawla police station and Sector 23 Dwarka too reached the spot immediately, added the senior police official.
A video of the said incident was posted on Twitter by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). It showed a group of men, carrying black flags, climbing on the bonnet of the minister’s SUV and banging it with their hands, thereby blocking the car from moving ahead. “BJP goons attack Delhi minister Satyendra Jain convoy! BJP is losing MCD elections, hence they are down to what they know best – VIOLENCE!” said AAP in the post.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said locals from Chhawla, who were protesting against the new excise policy, were behind the attack. “It is sad that AAP, which was born out of an agitational movement, cannot tolerate a protest by people today. It is sad that CM brands them as goons,” he said.
