Supreme Court YouTube Channel Hacked to Promote XRP Cryptocurrency

Supreme Court YouTube Channel Hacked

In a surprising cyberattack, the official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court of India was hacked on Friday. The channel, which is typically used to live stream important court hearings, was misused to broadcast content promoting a cryptocurrency called XRP, developed by US-based Ripple Labs.

Soon after the breach, the channel was taken offline to prevent further misuse. The Supreme Court, in an official statement, assured that the YouTube services would be restored soon.

Cryptocurrency Videos Replace Court Hearings

The breach came to public attention when a suspicious video titled “Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION” was uploaded to the Supreme Court’s channel. Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple Labs, has been embroiled in legal battles with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which adds a layer of intrigue to the incident. Additionally, the hackers made the existing videos of court hearings private, leaving the channel devoid of its usual content.

This is a significant disruption as the channel is used to broadcast live hearings, especially of the Constitution Bench and other matters of public interest.

Supreme Court Assures Swift Action

Reacting promptly to the situation, the Supreme Court issued a statement to inform viewers that the YouTube channel had been taken down temporarily. They further clarified that services on the channel would resume shortly after the necessary security measures were in place.

The timing of this hacking raises concerns, as it coincides with crucial hearings in the Supreme Court.
