Ahead of her appearance before the Enforcement Directorate in a case related to Delhi’s excise policy scam, BRS leader Kavitha K began her a day long hunger strike as she demanded the Centre to introduce a woman reservation bill in the parliament.
“If India needs to develop at par with global players, then women in Indian politics need more and more representation. Therefore, the women reservation bill becomes much more important. It has been pending for 27 years, and many women organisations have tried to work on this,” BRC MLC Kavitha said.
AAP, TMC, CPI and Shiv Sena extend support to K Kavitha
K Kavitha’s ‘historic’ movement has gained appreciation from many opposition parties including AAP, TMC, CPI (M) and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena.
“We appeal to the govt to introduce the Women’s Reservation Bill. We will unite all support outside the Parliament,” Sitaram Yechury of CPI (M) said.
“I assure you until the Women’s Reservation Bill is passed in Parliament, we will continue to support you and this cause,” he added.
‘This is just the beginning’
K Kavitha said that she, along with the help of various political outfits, will take this movement across the entire nation as she asserted this is just the beginning.
“I feel elated to have an opportunity to take this toward. Leaders from various political outfits are here today. Throughout the day, we will have more and more participation from various political outfits. We will sit on hunger strike today; this is just the beginning. We will take this movement all over India until the women’s reservation bill is passed,” BRS leader said.
K Kavitha’s strike comes a day before her appearance before the ED in the liquid policy scam. She had earlier requested ED to question her at her home.
