On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested YS Bhaskar Reddy, the uncle of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in connection with the slaying of former MP Vivekananda Reddy. The Kadapa MP’s father, YS Avinash Reddy, is Bhaskar Reddy.
He was taken into custody while at his home in the Kadapa district of Pulivendula. A second uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy and the brother of the late chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Vivekananda Reddy, was discovered dead at his home on March 19.
The CBI charge sheet claims that Vivekananda Reddy was miffed when Avinash Reddy was chosen as the YSRCP candidate for the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, which caused Avinash Reddy and Bhaskar Reddy to turn against him.
In place of the incumbent Avinash, Vivekananda Reddy allegedly demanded a ballot ticket for either himself or YS Sharmila and YS Vijayamma, the sister and mother of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Avinash Reddy, Bhaskara Reddy, and their adherent D Siva Sankar Reddy allegedly devised a plan to murder Vivekananda Reddy, according to an affidavit recently submitted to the Telangana High Court by the CBI. According to IANS, the other suspects received a Rs 40 crore offer to murder Vivekananda.
A new Special investigation Team (SIT) of the CBI was established by the Supreme Court last week, and it was given till April 30 to conclude the inquiry.
