Congress: In the 39-year-old anti-Sikh riots case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler. Following the discovery of new evidence against him, the Congress leader was mentioned in the chargesheet, according to officials.
Tytler Denies Involvement in 1984 Riots, Cites Separate Investigation
In connection with the 1984 riots in the Pul Bangash neighbourhood of the nation’s capital, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals, the investigation agency had gathered voice samples from Tytler last month. The Congressman is charged with encouraging the mob that killed the victims. In the Nanavati Commission report that examined the disturbances, he was mentioned. However, Tytler has asserted that there is not even a “single piece of evidence” against him. ‘What did I just do? I’m ready to hang myself if there is proof against me.’ He claimed as he was leaving the CBI’s forensics lab where his voice samples were taken, according to news agency ANI, ‘It wasn’t related to the 1984 riots case for which they sought my voice (sample), but another matter,’ Tytler stated.

Tytler’s Involvement in 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots Sparks Accusations and Political Backlash
After her divisive “Operation Blue Star” provoked violence against the Sikh community in the nation, then-prime minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards in 1984. In the riots, at least 3,000 people died. According to unreliable estimates, there are 8,000 of them, with at least 3,000 of them in Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation gave Tytler a clean bill of health on three separate occasions, but the court had ordered the agency to look into the situation further. Tytler, who was once a prominent leader of the Congress in Delhi, has long been a source of embarrassment for the organisation. The BJP, Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and other competitors have accused the Congress of protecting its officials who were implicated in the anti-Sikh riots. Last year, he was added to its committee for the Delhi municipal election, which caused a major uproar. At the last minute, he decided not to participate in the Delhi leg of Congressman Rahul Gandhi’s ambitious pan-Indian foot march, the Bharat Jodo Yatra, probably to avoid stirring up more controversy.
