45 YouTube videos from ten channels have been blocked by the center for airing fake news and morphing images to incite religious communities to hatred.
Examples include untrue allegations that the government has restricted some communities’ religious freedoms, violent threats against religious groups, and the proclamation of civil war in India.
In a statement released today, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry stated that “Such recordings were found to have the potential to cause communal strife and disrupt public order in the country.”
Using information from intelligence agencies, the government claimed to have stopped the videos. The videos that were prohibited received over 1. 3 crore total views.
