In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the Centre has said ‘ an active action plan and proposed short and medium-term plans are in place to curb the pollution crisis in Delhi-NCR, adding that closure notices have been issued for violation of the norms. ‘
After inspection by the flying squads, notices of site closure over industry emissions, diesel generator sets, construction or demolition emissions have been issued.

Note that the flying squads is constituted by the Centre. And it conducted visits across the National Capital Region.

Maximum violation of the norms reported in the industrial sector, which is a major reason to air pollution, especially during the winter months. Keeping this in mind and priority to control air quality, it contemplated the shifting of industries to cleaner fuels — and directions have been issued to all states, the Centre informs the top court.
In Uttar Pradesh total of 102 industrial units were closed for violating timing restrictions while 90 units were penalised for working on weekends.
“While the number of thermal power plants that can be shut down cannot be further increased, even shutting down the six plants within a 300 km radius of Delhi would also not be feasible beyond 15.12.2021, in view of the electricity scenario,” the Centre’s affidavit read.
