Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday has constituted 3 member committee to enquire into the serious lapses in the security arrangements during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur, Punjab on 5th January.
Ministry of Home Affairs taking to their official Twitter handle announced the news and said the committee will be led by Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Secretary (Security), Cabinet Secretariat Balbir Singh, Joint Director, IB, and S. Suresh, IG, SPG and the committee is advised to submit the report at its earliest.
Prime Minister Modi’s scheduled visit to National Martyrs Memorial at Hussainiwala and a programme in Ferozepur got cancelled after his convoy was stuck on a flyover for 15-20 minutes on Wednesday. The home ministry stated that the convoy was stuck on a flyover around 30 kilometres away from the memorial of freedom fighters as the road was blocked by some protestors.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi also briefed President Ram Nath Kovind on the first-hand account of the security breach in his convoy in Punjab. The president expressed his concerns about the serious security lapse.
The Punjab government has also constituted a two-member committee to probe the lases during PM’s visit to Ferozepur. The committee comprises Justice (retired) Mehtab Singh Gill and Principal Secretary, Home Affairs and Justice Anurag Verma. The committee has been asked to submit a report within three days.
