Champai Soren: The former chief minister and state minister, Champai Soren, took to the social media to let off steam and hinted at the possibility of resignation. In an emotional letter, Soren recalls his long journey in active politics, the many challenges he overcame, and how the recent humiliations have him wondering if this is the end of the road.

Reflecting on Service and Dedication

In his letter, Soren reminisces about his accidental appointment as the 12th Chief Minister of Jharkhand on January 31 and discharging his duties with complete devotion and honesty up to July 3. He took many decisions for the welfare of the people during his service and made himself accessible to all strata of society. He talks proudly about the efforts on his part to serve his state, paying homage to the annals of Jharkhand’s heroes like Baba Tilka Manjhi, Bhagwan Birsa Munda, and Sido-Kanhu.

However, all of Soren’s recent experiences have been disillusioning. Soren explained that since Hul Diwas celebrations, the party leadership cancelled all his scheduled programmes, from a public event in Dumka to the ceremony for distributing appointment letters to PGT teachers; its denial of Soren’s request to attend these events was flat, thus disrespecting him in public.

Soren’s Emotional Struggles in the Face of Public Humiliation

Soren narrates how, for the first time in his four-decade-long political career, he had never been left broken and introspective, struggling to understand the reasons behind the treatment meted out to him. He was asked to resign at a party meeting, to which he agreed, but it was a tremendous emotional cost paid by him.

Now, the former Chief Minister is going to reach the crossroads of his political career. Before him lies three options: retirement from politics, building his own organization, and searching for a new ally for continuing the political career. With the elections for Jharkhand Assembly around, Soren keeps all options open, indicating the opening of a new chapter in his life.
