Chandrayaan-3: Hours after reporting that Chandrayaan-3’s lander Vikram has exceeded its goal by “landing on moon, again,” India’s space agency ISRO revealed today that Vikram will enter sleep mode on the moon.

“Vikram Lander is set into sleep mode around 08:00 Hrs. IST today. Prior to that, in-situ experiments by ChaSTE, RAMBHA-LP and ILSA payloads are performed at the new location. The data collected is received at the Earth. Payloads are now switched off. Lander receivers are kept ON. Vikram will fall asleep next to Pragyan once the solar power is depleted and the battery is drained. Hoping for their awakening, around September 22, 2023,” tweeted ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation).

Vikram Lander in Chandrayaan-3 Exceeds Expectations with Successful Lunar Surface Hop Experiment

The Vikram Lander, a component of the Chandrayaan-3 project, has successfully carried out a hop experiment on the lunar surface, exceeding the mission’s goals, according to an announcement from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). On command, the lander started its engines, rose about 40 cm, and then successfully landed between 30 and 40 cm distant.
