Charanjit Singh Channi took oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab in the presence of Rahul Gandhi. Punjab’s first Dalit Sikh CM Charanjit Singh Channi will also have two deputies in the state.
Outgoing Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh who submitted his resignation to Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday after months of differences with Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, did not attend the swearing-in ceremony of Channi.
Announcing the party’s decision to appoint Mohindra and Randhawa as Deputy Chief Ministers, senior Congress leader and former Chandigarh MP Pawan Kumar Bansal tweeted, “Charanjit Singh Channi as the CM of Punjab and Brahm Mohindra & Sukhjinder Singh. Hearty congratulations for being promoted as Deputy Chief Minister of Randhawa. Best wishes for their stupendous success in the service of Punjab under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.”

On Sunday, Charanjit Singh Channi was unanimously elected the leader of the Congress Legislature Party of Punjab and is set to take over as the Chief Minister next.
After the announcement of the new chief minister, Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat said that the state would also have two deputy chief ministers. “One deputy chief minister will be from the Jat Sikh community and the other from the Hindu community,” he said.
