Chennai: An Uber driver is accused of sexually assaulting a college student on Sunday night in Chennai. When the girl sounded the alarm, the driver ran off.
Ishita Singh, an Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) student, shared this story on Twitter and stated that she had ordered an Uber autorickshaw to take her from a restaurant to a city hotel in Semmanchari. The incident happened as she was getting out of the car and her friend was making the payment. She yelled in retaliation. They also made an effort to stop him, but the driver managed to get away. She immediately dialled the police, but nobody answered.

When she and her friend returned from East Coast Madras to the hotel, the college student claimed that the Uber Auto driver named Selvam sexually attacked her by touching her right breast near the Ibis OMR Hotel.
Station manager provided them an A4 sheet to write an application instead of registering an FIR.
She claimed that a man and an inspector arrived at the hotel to look at the situation after she had waited for 30 minutes. As there was no female officer at the station, he advised them to wait until the next day to register a FIR. When she questioned the police about the female cop, they allegedly said that it was a government directive. The complaint has to be made outside the police station. Instead, she claimed that the station manager provided them an A4 sheet to write an application instead of registering an FIR.
Six guys were detained by Chennai police for holding a 40-year-old lady at knifepoint during a rape about a month ago on the city’s Bypass route.
The victim was going home after attending a temple celebration, according to the Chennai police. She reserved a cab and dispatched her husband and children with it.
In July of this year, Uber introduced an emergency assistance option. It was stated that users would be able to disclose their current location in an emergency.
