A Chhattisgarh government helicopter crashed at Raipur airport on Thursday evening leaving two pilots dead, reported news agency PTI quoting a police official.
While there were no passengers on board, the two pilots sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a private hospital, where they were declared dead.
Confirming the tragic news, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel wrote on Twitter: “Both the pilots, Captain Panda and Captain Srivastava have died in the accident.” The CM expressed grief and offered condolences to the bereaved families.
According to preliminary information, the helicopter crashed while the crew was conducting a night flying training on the runway of the airport around 9pm.
The chopper crashed while landing on the rear end of the runway, leaving both the pilots severely injured causing their death.
