COP28 Dubai Summit: China and India did not sign the global pledge on energy efficiency and renewables during the Conference of Parties (COP28) climate summit in Dubai this year. By 2030, the commitment was to triple the global target for renewable energy. In the meantime, 118 countries have committed to tripling their use of green energy.
Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency Pledge
By 2030, the Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency Pledge aims to double the average yearly rate of energy efficiency improvements to over 4 percent worldwide and triple the installed capacity of renewable energy worldwide to at least 11,000 GW. Starting on Thursday and lasting until December 12, the worldwide conference is being attended by nearly a million delegates from 198 nations.
2030 UN Climate Conference Host Announcement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested on Friday that India would host the 2028 UN climate conference. In addition, he introduced the ‘Green Credit Initiative,’ which aims to use public participation to create carbon sinks.
Equitable Global Carbon Budget Allocation
During the second day of the UN climate conference (COP28) in Dubai, the prime minister said that wealthy countries should give all developing countries their fair share of the global carbon budget and completely reduce their carbon footprint “well before” 2050. Additionally, he urged nations to present a clear financial outcome at COP28 to support developing and impoverished countries in their fight against climate change.
