Congress Demands Immediate Cease-Fire in Israel-Palestine Conflict

Israel Palestine Conflict: The Congress Working Committee stated on Monday that it has historically supported “the rights of the Palestinian people to land, self-government, and to live with dignity and respect” and demanded a “immediate cease-fire” between Israeli forces and the militant organisation Hamas.

“The CWC calls for an immediate cease-fire and for negotiations to begin on all outstanding issues including the imperative issues that have given rise to the present conflict,” it said in a statement.

The Congress Party’s Stance

The party had earlier stated that it “condemns the brutal attacks against the people of Israel.” Jairam Ramesh, general secretary of the Congress, stated that his party has long held the view that the genuine aspirations of the Palestinian people must be met via dialogue while taking Israeli national security concerns into consideration.
