After recently accusing IYC chairman BV Srinivas of harassment and even filing a complaint, Congress on Saturday removed Angkita Dutta, the president of the Assam Youth wing of the party, for her alleged anti-party activities.
On Saturday, the Disciplinary Action Committee’s member-secretary, Tariq Anwar, released a letter in which he wrote: “Hon’ble Congress president has expelled Dr Angkita Dutta, president Assam Pradesh Youth Congress from the primary membership of the party for six years for her anti-party activities with immediate effect.”
On April 18, Dutta spoke about suspected harassment, and the next day, she reported Srinivas to the Dispur police station. She claims that Srinivas has been torturing her mentally for the past six months.
She claims that Srinivas has been harassing her mentally for the past six months. She asserted that Srinivas insulted her and threatened severe repercussions if she reported him to senior party officials.
Angkita claimed that Srinivas had sexually abused her on March 25 in a hotel in Chhattisgarh while speaking to a member of the media in Guwahati. She insisted that she told senior party leaders about the incident, but they ignored her.
“I didn’t file a complaint against the party but against a particular person, BV Srinivas. I am a Congress party worker, I have worked for the party and will continue doing so. All I wanted is to stand against what was wrong and I hope the accused will be punished under the law,” she told the media on April 21.
In the meantime, Srinivas filed a defamation action and sent Dutta with a legal notice in response to her complaint and harassing claims.
On April 21, Dutta came before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, where her statement was recorded in accordance with section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which gives the magistrate the power to do so regardless of the jurisdiction.
