Rahul Gandhi: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, sent a four-page preliminary response on Sunday to the Delhi Police’s notice regarding his statement that “women are still being sexually assaulted” during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, questioning the procedure used by the authorities and the sudden urgency following a 45-day delay.
Congress leader responded with a 10-point reply
Hours after a Delhi Police team had knocked on his house for the third time in five days, the Congress leader responded with a 10-point plan. According to the sources, he also requested 8 to 10 days to provide a thorough response to Delhi police’s questioning regarding his remarks from January 30. According to authorities, the police team led by Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda arrived to Rahul Gandhi’s 12, Tughlaq Lane, home around 10 am and was able to meet the Congressman after two hours. The team then departed the area at 1 pm.
Police had asked him to give details of these victims
Police claim that during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi said in Srinagar, ‘I have heard that women are still being sexually attacked,’ and because the Yatra also travelled through Delhi, they were curious to know if any victims had contacted the Congress leader here. So that they can start an investigation into the situation. According to a representative, “The police had asked him to give details of these victims so that security might be provided to them.
Worst case of harassment and political vendetta
Before 4 o’clock in the afternoon, Rahul Gandhi sent a preliminary response in which he called the police action “unprecedented” and questioned whether it had anything to do with the stance he had taken on the Adani issue both inside and outside of Parliament. They claim that Rahul Gandhi also questioned the Delhi Police’s eagerness in making two visits in as many days after an initial 45-day break following his address in Kashmir. According to the sources, the former head of the Congress reportedly questioned whether any other political party, including the one in power, had experienced the same kind of scrutiny or interrogation on its electoral campaigns. An irate Congress has slammed the Delhi Police action and blasted the Central government, calling it the “worst case of harassment and political vendetta”, while the BJP refuted the claim and said the police was “just fulfilling its lawful duties”.
