PM Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently addressed BJP workers at the party headquarters in New Delhi, bringing attention to two significant issues: the Waqf Board laws and the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. His remarks come ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, scheduled to begin on November 25, where the government plans to table the Waqf (Amendment) Bill for consideration.
Waqf Board and the Upcoming Amendment Bill
PM Modi pointed out that Waqf Board-related laws have been a topic of debate for years. He referred to a decision made in 2014, where properties near Delhi were reportedly allocated to the Waqf Board. The Prime Minister highlighted that the government is taking steps to streamline the functioning of the Waqf Board through amendments aimed at better management and transparency.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) during the Monsoon Session, is expected to be presented in the Winter Session after the committee submits its findings. This bill seeks to introduce reforms in how Waqf properties are managed, ensuring they are utilised efficiently for public benefit.
Article 370: Focus on Jammu and Kashmir
Another focal point of PM Modi’s address was the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. This constitutional provision, which granted special status to the region, was abrogated in 2019. The Prime Minister noted that some political parties have spoken about reinstating it, sparking ongoing debates.
PM Modi mentioned that public sentiment across India, including in regions like Maharashtra, has strongly supported the move to integrate Jammu and Kashmir more closely with the rest of the country. He emphasized that unity and inclusivity are key to fostering development and stability in the region.
PM Modi highlighted the support his government has received from diverse sections of society, including Dalits, tribals, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). He described this as a testament to the public’s alignment with the government’s vision of equality and development.
Winter Session Outlook
With the Winter Session of Parliament on the horizon, key topics like the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and discussions around Jammu and Kashmir are expected to take center stage. The government’s focus remains on addressing longstanding issues and implementing reforms to ensure efficiency, inclusivity, and progress. The discussions promise to be a crucial moment for shaping policy and public opinion.
