Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attacked Congress’s state unit chief Bhupen Borah over his “love Jihad happened in Mahabharata too” comment. Bhupen Borah recently left everyone stunned with his remarks on Mahabharata and has been attracting flak for the same. Speaking to the media, Borah said, “When Lord Krishna wanted to marry Rukmini, Arjun came in disguise of a woman. There was love jihad in the Mahabharata also.”
‘The comment against Sanatan’
Reacting to Borah’s statement, the Assam Chief Minister said the comment was against Sanatan and Hindu Dharma, adding to drag the topic of Krishna and Rukmini itself is a condemnable act.
“I request Congress, the way we don’t drag Hazrat Muhammad or Jesus Christ into any controversy, the same way we should avoid dragging Lord Krishna into any controversy. Comparing god to criminal activity is not acceptable,” said Himanta.
The Assam chief minister further added, “If someone files a case, we will have to arrest the person who has said this. If thousands of people of the Sanatan religion file complaints, I can’t save him.”
He said that love jihad is when a girl is married under the pretext of a false identity and is later forced to change her religion. However, Lord Krishna never forced Rukmini to change her religion, he insisted.
‘One should not be forced to change religion’
Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if a Hindu marries a Hindu and a Muslim marries a Muslim, society will be in order. However, if an inter-faith marriage is to take place, it must be as per the Special Marriage Act.
“When we don’t follow these laws and cross the Lakshman Rekha, it turns to love jihad,” Himanta said.
The BJP leader further attacked Congress and said the grand old party will someday have no other space to hide except for masjid and madrassas. “There also, AIUDF will chase him, and they won’t have any space to hide.”
