State Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das was shot in the chest by a police ASI in Jharsuguda, Odisha. After which he has been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. The ASI who fired the bullet is mentally ill for the last few years. This information has been given by Jayanti Das, wife of ASI Gopal Das. He said that he came to know about this incident through a TV channel.
Jayanthi told, ‘I have absolutely no idea why my husband fired at the Health Minister. He made a video call to our daughter this morning. But after some time he disconnected the call. Jayanthi claimed that her husband was taking medicines for mental illness for the last few years. She said, ‘He was taking medicines for the last 7 to 8 years. His mental condition was not going well at the moment, but his behavior was very normal and there was no trauma”. Jayanthi further said that in the last 8 years, she has never seen sick and bad behavior.
State health minister shot
An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district allegedly shot State Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das on Sunday. A senior officer gave this information. The incident took place in Brajrajnagar town of the district around 1 pm when Das was on his way to attend a meeting and got down from the car to accept the greetings of the people, they said.
Brajrajnagar SDPO Gupteshwar Bhoi told reporters, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das fired at the minister. The minister has been injured in the incident and has been taken to the hospital. Bhoi told that the local people caught the accused ASI and handed him over to the police.
CM condemned the incident
Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the crime branch has been instructed to investigate the matter. He said in a statement, I am shocked by this unfortunate attack on Honorable Minister Naba Das. I strongly condemn the attack on him and pray for his speedy recovery. Senior officers of the crime branch have been instructed to go to the spot.
In a video of the incident, Minister Das is seen unconscious and bleeding from his chest. In the video, the local people are seen trying to pick up the minister and make him sit on the front seat of the car. According to the SDPO, the minister was first taken to Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital, but later arrangements were made to airlift him to Bhubaneswar hospital for better treatment.
Took the green corridor to the hospital
Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh said that a green corridor was made to take the minister to the hospital in Bhubaneswar. He told, police personnel were deployed in the entire corridor to bring the minister safely. At the same time, tension has arisen in Brajrajnagar after the incident and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) minister’s supporters are questioning the security lapse. Some claim that a conspiracy was hatched to target the minister.
The SDPO told that the accused ASI has been arrested and his interrogation is on. He said that more information would come to the fore only after a thorough investigation of the incident. Significantly, the minister is a powerful leader of the mining center Jharsuguda and left the Congress before the 2019 elections and joined the BJD. His business interests are believed to be in coal mining, transport and hospitality.
