India has reported 11,713 new infections of coronavirus in the last 24 hours even as its overall tally mounted to 1,08,14,304, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in a statement.
In a major development, India’s single day deaths due to covid-19 remain below 100 as the country reported only 95 deaths.
For over a week, the country has recorded less than 15,000 new infections daily. Also, the daily Covid-19 death toll has been below the 300-mark for more than a month now.
As per the Ministry’s data, there are 1,48,590 active cases at present after 14,488 patients were discharged in a day. Till now, 1,05,10,796 persons have been discharged so far.
While the recovery rate has increased to 97.2 per cent, the fatality rate has dipped to 1.43 per cent.
A total of 20,06,72,589 samples have been tested for Covid-19 up to February 5. Of these, 7,40,794 samples were tested on Friday, said the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
India started its vaccination programme against covid-19 on January 16 with two approved vaccines.
Nearly 5.5 million (54,16,849) doses of corona vaccine doses have been administered in India since the drive began on January 16 after approval for ‘Covishield’ and ‘Covaxin’.
The Covid vaccination drive for healthcare workers in Telangana concluded on Friday, with 58 per cent of the beneficiaries taking the jab since January 16 when the programme was launched.

*The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases on the African continent has reached 3,626,960, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
*Greek authorities announced on Friday that the Covid-19 nationwide lockdown which started on November 7 is further extended to February 15.
*Another 19,114 people in Britain have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 3,911,573, according to official figures released on Friday.
Meanwhile, the total number of global coronavirus cases has topped 105.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.29 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
